Dogs are mistreated,
neglected and abused
The stray dog crisis in Romania is so severe that hundreds of captured dogs are forced to spend their remaining days of life in overcrowded public pounds where the conditions are absolutely horrific.
The National Veterinary Authority (ANSVSA) refuses to shut down or even remodel these public pounds to meet the sanitary and humane requirements for better living conditions. There have been documented reports of neglect, abuse, and even questionable euthanization procedures in many of these institutions.
There have even been reports where dogs have resorted to eating dead dogs because they are not fed.
This inhumane treatment of captured dogs needs to end!

ROLDA shelters can only accommodate 700 dogs at one time, but we continue to fight for the thousands of strays who are at risk of being captured, incarcerated, and euthanized in deplorable public pounds.
Our efforts to converse, implore, and petition with the ANSVSA has been futile, and many of these public pounds continue to operate with no regard for the wellbeing of the dogs they capture.
But despite the little progress we’ve made, ROLDA has no intention to stop until these places are closed or restructured.
How can you help
end their misery?
You can help put pressure on the Romanian government and
ANSVSA to:
Control all the shelters (funded publicly and privately).
Ensure each shelter meets the minimal EU standard for public pounds, as required by law.
Shut down all the shelters that have been previously fined and that presently don’t have legal shelter permit, as required by law.
Demand that all pounds have a contract with a veterinarian who can approve and conduct humane euthanizations.
