She is a talented Romanian artisan who uses her gift with her hands to bring crochet toys to life.
Like many Romanians, striving for a better life, Mariana migrated to Spain many years ago. She was doing well, had a lovely daughter, learned Spanish and became part of the community. Unfortunately, Mariana’s parents took ill and she had to return to Romania to care for them. To make matters worse, Mariana the received very bad news about her own health.
Her ill-health took her job and sadly, even after successful treatment, could not find work. She continues to look after her parents and crocheting is her only income. Yet she still takes immense joy creating items that make kids smile or like in our case, provide for ROLDA dogs.
Whenever you make a purchase in ROLDA’s online shop, what your kindness gives back to our dogs is clearly making an immediate difference. This could be a life-saving vaccine, food for hungry bellies or keeping our shelters clean and comfortable.
ROLDA is proud to work with brilliant Romanian craftspeople like Mariana who create the unique items that populate our shop. This relationship provides a much-needed income to local craftspeople and the profits go directly to providing care for our vulnerable dogs.
Rocky and Roxy are new, very special additions made by Mariana. They’re handcrafted and adorable teddies safe for both pets and children, but here’s the best part: every mascot purchased will cover the entire cost of food, routine veterinary care and housing for a ROLDA dog in our shelter for a whole year!

Dogs like Rex, Barkley, Relu and Jet
The only home Rex knew was the couple of meters where the chain that bound him to a post allowed him to roam. ROLDA found him, neglected and dangerously malnourished. For so long had he been confined by a chain, the newfound freedom of our shelter was scary for him but Rex is recovering well in our care.
Barkley was saved as a tiny pup, actually one of ROLDA’s youngest rescues. Now Barkley is about 6-months old, full of energy and love and counting down the days until he joins his new family in the USwhere to start living the American dream!
Relu was found by ROLDA in an appalling condition – suffering from a severe infection in both eyes and needed urgent surgery performed by a specialist veterinarysurgeon (and long recovery period in a vet hospital) at immense cost. However, every penny was worth it as Relu now lives with a loving new family in Switzerland.
Jet became one of our longest residents, staying with ROLDA for over 6 years. Suffering with arthritis with his advancing years, we feared Jet would miss out on adoption. However – never give up hope! – Jet is spending his retirement in a loving new home in the USA.
The mascots Rocky and Roxy will make a delightful gift for a family member, especially as a loveable companion for a pet or young child.
If you don’t want to receive the mascot by post, and if you prefer, ROLDA will donate the little bundle of joy to a child in the local community whose family rely on meagre incomes and cannot typically afford toys. Likewise, ROLDA conducts an initiative to alleviate loneliness in our senior citizens which involves taking some of our more sociable dogs to retirement homes and unite people with the affection and joy only dogs can offer. We are happy to donate a mascot to them as a gesture of friendship to those who need it most.
ROLDA never gives up on any dog and those we welcome into our shelter can spend a matter of weeks with us to several years; some dogs even live out their lives with us, in comfort and amongst love as we grow old together.
40% of the dogs in our care are in advanced age and unexpected veterinary costs challenge our budget. It is a constant worry we will not have enough resources to cover upkeep, staff and medical costs but giving up on any dog is not – and has never been – an option for ROLDA.
Every purchase of Rocky or Roxy brings with it the peace of mind that at least one dog’s care is secure for another year. When you become an annual sponsor, you enable ROLDA to plan our finances and grow as an organisation, increasing our capacity to help the homeless and neglected dogs of Romania.
However, we wholly appreciate not everyone can afford large donations and we offer our eternal gratitude for every single Euro. ROLDA offers numerous sponsorship plans that cover all budgets, with flexible donorship options and frequencies to sponsor a dog.
